Try My Easiest Detox Method for Herx Reactions
While on the path to recovery, it is critical to help your body rid itself of the toxins that are released into the blood stream and tissues. The miserable symptoms are called Herx Reaction or Die-off. While there are very expensive ways to do this I’d like to focus on the easiest and least expensive detox methods for Herx reactions.
-Tons of filtered water-never bottled, drink all day long-ladies get soft TP and pat dry-no really!
-Add lemon or better yet Lemon Essential Oil-not so acidic because it is from the peel ($8.75 plus S+H)
-Yogi Brand Berry Detox Tea (find it in the Natural Food isle)
-Cruciferous Vegetables, (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprout, kale, radish, turnips etc. (raw is best, then roasting. Steaming reduces the vitamins and breaks down the natural properties-just don’t make it mushy, al dente is best.)
-Berries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, (These HAVE to be organic-regular berries are heavily sprayed with pesticides), and we are already trying to detox. Don’t add another layer.
-Avacado, (NO need to be organic since you do not eat the skin), offers Glutathione that supports the liver which is a mechanism for detoxification. See the supplement below from PURE.
-Pineapple, aids in digestion and detoxification in the gastrointestinal tract. Keeping bowels moving also promotes detoxification. High fiber can also help too, (food or supplement).
-Apple Cider Vinegar, Braggs with the Mother, (fragments of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria that give the product a murky, cobweb-like appearance). Its Organic. Apples are highly pesticide sprayed too. Be mindful of this when buying apples, even if you do not plan on eating the skins. The skins are on the thin side. You can add Apple Cider Vinegar to vegetables, salads, or a tablespoon in 1 cup of water in the am. If it feels too acidic follow with another glass of plain water.
SUPPLEMENTS: I used as directed on the bottle
-Glutathione-only get capsules-the liquid is disgusting!
-ALA, (all 3 from PURE and available from AMAZON), It’s not a good day if an Amazon box is not at my front door!!
-Burbur and Pinella, (combo-better together than each alone) NutraMedix I used 10 drops in water every 10 minutes if I felt awful. After about 5-8 doses along with the Alka-Seltzer Gold did help.
-Alka-Seltzer Gold, (available only on Line, Amazon of course).
-Activated Charcoal, (this will bind toxins in the intestines). Be mindful: do not take within about 3 hours before or after medication or supplements because it will lower the effectiveness by binding to them and causing them to be eliminated before they have a chance to do its job.
-Chlorella, look for an Organic supplement-I purchased mine from a provider. It is not available for general purchase. There are brands on line.
OTHER SUPPORT MEASURES:
-Dry Skin Brushing helps slough off dead skin that allow toxins to more easily pass through the skin. Next step…
-Epsom Salt Baths (as hot as you can do safely), you can add Lavender Essential Oil, $16.43 plus S+H. Gives a calming spa-like experience. Great for reducing aches, promoting rest and sleep. The goal is to get hot enough to sweat. The freshly brushed skin will allow the toxins to be released through the skin in the sweat. Towel off quickly and then wrap up in a heavy robe. Stay in the bathroom for 10-15 minutes. Promptly dress and do not allow yourself to get chilled. A warm cup of detox tea is great after.
-Sleep/Naps, both necessary to help your body work efficiently. It may be difficult due to the irregularity of the production of melatonin due to the Lyme and co-infections. So do the best you can. Catch up when you can. Feeling tired is a sign that your body needs rest. Be mindful of this warning. If you are working try 5 minutes of quiet time and deep breathing. This can lower your production of stress hormones and help with a little regeneration of energy. A big sigh can also reduce stress. When your co-workers say, ”What’s wrong,” say “Just practicing my Yoga breathing.”
-Exercise Although you may feel you cannot possibly do this, keep it simple. A short walk, a simple Yoga session. I will be doing a simple Yoga routine on video soon with my friend and Yoga instructor Stacey Duquette. I lost so much muscle when my activity was limited. Yoga can prevent this.
-Massage And Lymphatic Drainage can be instrumental for detoxification. Not all massage therapists are skilled in this, so ask if they are appropriately trained.
